Edelman Planetarium
The Ric and Jean Edelman Planetarium at Rowan University is a resource for public outreach and astronomy education in Glassboro, NJ, 20 miles southeast of Philadelphia. For more than 20 years, Edelman Planetarium has been an educational staple in the community, offering planetarium shows, star parties, school field trips, and special events for the public.
Our mission is to create a sense of wonder about the night sky and its connections to the world around us. We achieve this by advancing the understanding of the universe and serving as a resource for astronomical information for broad and diverse audiences. Programs include elements of the natural sciences, education, communications, and the fine and performing arts.
The 40-foot diameter dome of the Edelman Planetarium—the largest in South Jersey—is the visual focal point of Science Hall. The Edelman Planetarium features a 102-seat auditorium, an adjacent rooftop observatory, and an observing deck.
Although we don’t have a dedicated gallery space, we do utilize our large, open atrium to maximize our impact with a mini-exhibition on loan from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, a small reading space with space books in English and Braille, and an art installation featuring images from the Hubble Space Telescope and James Webb Space Telescope.
The entire facility, including the rooftop observatory, is wheelchair accessible. Our accessible planetarium seats have space for parking a wheelchair in the row and moveable armrests for easy movement between the seat and chair.
Our restrooms feature power-activated doors, wide stalls to accommodate wheelchairs, and grab bars for added accessibility.
Accessible parking spaces are available throughout the Rowan University campus, including those located at the rear of Science Hall. Wide, well-maintained sidewalks make getting to the Edelman Planetarium a breeze.
Open caption planetarium shows are available on Sundays at 3 p.m.
Visitors are encouraged to use their accessibility/communication devices (i.e., tablets, cell phones) during the show with the brightness set to its lowest setting and dark mode enabled.
