For more than 150 years, The Indianapolis Public Library (IndyPL) has continuously adapted and expanded to serve the evolving needs of our city and its residents. The Decatur Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library is dedicated to creating a calm, supportive, and inclusive environment for autistic, neurodivergent, and disabled patrons as part of its commitment to autism certification. Patrons may borrow sensory-friendly kits intended to reduce sensory overload and support self-regulation. These kits include noise-canceling headphones for both adults and children, sunglasses, a selection of fidgets, and liquid motion timers, along with clear instructions for use during visits and programs. The branch also provides accessible public computer workstations with height-adjustable tables, large-key and large-print keyboards, and trackball mice with arm supports. These stations are equipped with assistive software such as screen-reading tools, text-to-speech, live transcription, magnification, and math support applications. Additional amenities such as free Wi-Fi, public computers with Microsoft Office, early learning computer stations, reservable meeting space and a study room, exam proctoring services, and self-service options including mobile printing, document scanning, and walk-up book returns help ensure patrons can access library resources independently and comfortably.
