The Franklin Road Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library demonstrates a strong commitment to accessibility for autistic, neurodivergent, and disabled patrons through both staff training and supportive amenities. All staff at this location have completed comprehensive autism-focused training that emphasizes respectful communication, sensory awareness, and inclusive service practices. To further support patrons during programs, the branch offers a sensory bin available for all ages that includes noise-reducing headphones and a variety of fidgets to help manage sensory sensitivities. Franklin Road also provides accessible public computer workstations equipped with adjustable desks, large-key and large-print keyboards, and alternative mouse options, along with assistive software such as text-to-speech, screen reading, magnification, and live transcription tools. Additional amenities, including free Wi-Fi, public computers with Microsoft Office, early learning computer stations, reservable meeting and study rooms, exam proctoring, self-service printing and scanning, walk-up and drive-up book returns, and other independent-use services, help create a flexible and welcoming library environment for patrons with a wide range of access needs.
