For more than 150 years, The Indianapolis Public Library (IndyPL) has continuously adapted and expanded to serve the evolving needs of our city and its residents. The Haughville Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library is committed to providing an inclusive and accessible experience for autistic, neurodivergent, and disabled patrons. Sensory-friendly kits are available for use throughout the branch and are designed to support sensory regulation and comfort. These kits include noise-canceling headphones for both adults and children, sunglasses, a variety of fidgets, and liquid motion timers, with straightforward instructions to assist patrons during programs or independent visits. The branch also features accessible computer workstations that support a range of physical and sensory needs, offering height-adjustable desks, large-key and large-print keyboards, and trackball mice with arm supports. Assistive software available at these stations includes text-to-speech, live transcription, magnification tools, math support programs, and screen-reading applications for blind and visually impaired users. Additional amenities such as free Wi-Fi, public computers with Microsoft Office, early learning computer stations, reservable meeting and study rooms, exam proctoring services, a seasonal seed library, and self-service options like mobile printing, document scanning, and walk-up book returns help ensure patrons can access library resources in ways that are flexible, independent, and welcoming.
