Billings Depot, Inc.

The Billings Depot was built in 1909 for use by three railroad companies. This beautiful, historic campus consists of four buildings and has served as the venue of choice for many of the most important visitors in Billings’ history. This includes presidents, historical figures like Calamity Jane, Hollywood celebrities and visiting royalty.
These buildings are the center of Billings’ town site district, which was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
The last passenger train left the Depot in the spring of 1979 and the campus remained vacant until 1992 when Ron Howard filmed parts of his movie Far and Away, in the Depot starring Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. In 1995, a group of citizens concerned by the physical condition of the facility came together to begin rehabilitation of the Depot campus.
The Billings Depot offers a dramatic, unique setting along the railroad tracks to make every event memorable. The building is comprised of four main event spaces: the stunning passenger station, the spacious baggage room, a small conference room and our historic mail building. The Depot also features two outdoor courtyards and a back-patio area along the tracks so your group can enjoy both indoor and outdoor environments.
Today, the building has been lovingly restored and once again plays host to many of Billings’ most memorable celebrations. We host anywhere from 150 too 200 events a year ranging in size from 50 to 700 guests and across every category of celebration: weddings, fundraisers, tradeshows, baby showers, community events, meetings and conventions and even political fundraisers.
